*In previous years city paid audits, expenses for the golf course have been listed separately, unfortunately, in the 2007 budget and city paid audit the golf course expenses were added in with the parks.  Since we are unable to give the exact total of expenses for the golf course we determined an estimate based on the 2006 budget.

In Contrast:

  • The City of Columbia Missouri has two golf courses which make a profit (exception 2005) despite the fact they have to compete with two country club courses, three private owned public courses and the University of Missouri golf course.

  • The City of Bridgeton Missouri has a golf course that shows a profit and expects to "break even" in the future when it's necessary to replace old equipment and renovate buildings.

Golf Course Expenses in the Fiscal 2008 Budget

  • $20,000 for Publicity

  • $600 Website Service (Why isn't the IT department doing the golf website?)

  • $1,000 Mileage

Management

In March 2004 Joseph Anatra was hired as the Golf Course Assistant Manager.  Five months later in August, 2004 Mr. Anatra was promoted to Golf Course Manager.  We have been unable to ascertain his educational and golf related experience that qualifies him for this position.

Club House Manager, Justin Meyer, is Bob Russell, the Economic Director's grandson.  The original proposed FY2008 budget included an 11% increase for this position.
